Restrictions for goods covered by the FDA

It is still possible to send goods to the USA, but all shipments are currently being checked much more strictly, especially those covered by regulations from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Shipments that require FDA approval may be stopped at customs and in some cases discarded by the authorities. If a shipment is destroyed, neither the value of the goods nor the shipping cost will be reimbursed.

Background for the change

The USA has removed the previous de minimis rule, which made it possible to import low-value goods without full customs clearance. This has led to more customs declarations and stricter controls by US authorities.

Check the contents before you ship

Therefore, check that the contents of your shipment are not subject to FDA import regulations before you ship it. Items that require approval may be stopped or discarded without compensation. More information can be found at www.fda.gov.

Examples of items that may be subject to this include: food, food contact materials, wood products, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biological products, veterinary drugs, radiation-emitting products, and tobacco and cosmetic products.
