Packing pallets correctly

The best way to prevent damage when you send your content on pallets is to pack according to where the content requires. Just as when you send your content in packages, you must pack properly and also anchor content that is sent on pallets. The responsibility of the carrier is to transport the pallet, your responsibility as the sender is to package the goods so it can handle the journey.



Pallets is handled manually with pallet truck and forklift. For almost all stops e.g. at terminals, there is a person on site who can adapt the handling to what that particular pallet needs. But it is also a tough handling with machines, angles, fast movements and heavy weights. That is why you should make sure to pack correctly, it can save you much money in the long run.

Three tips for proper packaging of your contents on pallets:

Adapt your packaging to the contents - A common mistake is to use too large carton boxes without filling the empty space. Make sure that the goods rest on the filling and that it is applied to all the walls of the box.
Do not skimp on the packaging material - It is not always the seemingly cheapest option that gives the lowest total price in the end. For example. using cheaper pallets that are not EUR standard can end up with the entire pallet breaking and the contents being damaged.
The goods must be prepared - So that the driver can easily secure the load without there being a risk of damage to the goods.
The goods are fixed to the pallet - So it cannot slip or tip during transport and handling.

Guidance for special goods on pallets

Some items that are shipped does not fit in carton boxes that can be stacked on pallets. Instead it must be placed and anchored directly on the pallet. ☝️DO NOT FORGET: In addition to packaging preventing damage to what you are transporting, it also reduces the risk of damage to other goods that are loaded together. Also, the risk of injury is reduced for the staff at the terminal and the drivers who handle the goods manually.

You must follow these points when sending goods - it is your responsibility as a freight booker and sender. This applies regardless of which carrier you use or whether you have insurance on your content or not.
